232. Hot Fudge Sauce

This is the easiest recipe for hot fudge sauce that I have ever made.

My sister n law, Elizabeth, introduced this to our family 20+ years ago and we have used it for more social events than we can count.

We call it A CUP, A CAN and A CUBE.

For those that don't remember the term, CUBE, that is now our current STICK of butter.

This chocolate is best served by the spoonfuls with very little of anything else…LOL  Okay that is just how I eat the hot fudge sauce.

I love it served warm of raspberry sherbet, stirred in a glass of milk or as a fondue for some of my favorite fruits and poundcake.

It's a real treat and something that makes a wonderful gift for neighbors and friends.

Recipe:  Hot Fudge Sauce

1 cube (stick, 1/2 cup) of butter, soft
1 cup of chocolate chips
1 can of Sweetened Condensed Milk

To make your own Sweetened Condense Milk, there is a great recipe HERE from Just as Delish.

In a medium sauce pan on medium heat, melt the butter.

Stir in the chocolate chips.

Add the Sweetened Condensed Milk.

Stir well to combine.  The butter will take a minute to incorporate into the sauce.  It will be smooth and silky.

Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.

Good for one month in sealed container.

This recipe reminds me one of the most popular Brazilian sweets: Brigadeiro! When I was in school I usually did Brigadeiro and ate the whole thing, still warm, directly from the pan. So delicious!

That is super easy and I love that I usually have all of those ingredients! :D

What a wonderful recipe! And how much simpler does it get: a cup, a can and a cube :-). It was the most popular post on RecipeNewZ yestarday, and today it's featured in our hall of fame: http://www.facebook.com/RecipeNewZ
Congratulations and Happy Thanksgiving!

Does this need to be refrigerated? Looks delicious!

I always keep it in the fridge. To warm it up, I use the microwave.

looks scrumptious! have you ever made it with the fat free sweetened condensed milk? did it turn out? thanks!

Does it make a difference what kind of chocolate chips you use? Semi-sweet,milk chcolate?

Sherron Watson said...

No, it shouldn't. I have used semi sweet and dark before and they both turn out well. I have not tried milk or white chips. Let us know what type you try so we can experiment with our next batch…LOL

If I am planning to make this for Christmas gifts how much with this recipe make? Need to plan for jar size (ounces). Thanks!

Sherron Watson said...

The jar that you see at the top holds 2 cups, roughly 16 ounces. This is the amount of one batch.

Sherron Watson said...

I have never froze this before, but I have left it in my fridge for a month and it still taste delicious.

To be honest, I don't know. I only use real butter and so if you were to use something else I am not sure how the ingredients would blend together. It may work fine. If you try please let me know as other's may also have the same question.

Butterscotch chips would work_. Ever try splenda?

I didn't realize I should have done this with semi-sweet chocolate chips. I used milk chocolate.... it's yummy!

This is the best hot fudge sauce! My sister in law, Amy which is your sister in law, introduced this to me years ago. It's a favorite. I love your blog. You take beautiful pictures and your writing is impeccable.

This is excellent fudge sauce! Thank you for sharing your recipe. I made this for dessert this evening.......would temper it with some half & half to thin it out a bit.

Are the chocolate chips semi-sweet?

Anonymous said...

I have the same question!!

Sherron Watson said...

I used semi sweet for this recipe, but I have also used dark chocolate. I have never tried milk or white. I hope this helps.

Ah how lovely that you've included a recipe for Condensed Milk from a fellow Malaysian.

We love our condensed milk; in teas, coffees etc.

Shall be giving this recipe a try! Thanks!

I used:

1/2 Cup Real Butter
182g Milk Chocolate (chose a cooking milk chocolate as Cadburys Milk Chocolate for us Irish is low in coco solids)
397g condensed milk
2 drops of vanilla extract

I'm a divil for adding extras so couldn't help myself with the vanilla but the fudge sauce is Fantastic.

The rest is in the fridge for tomorrow... THANK YOU SHERRON :)

i accidentally used 1 cup instead of 1/2 cup of butter! OOOPS - but I just added about 1/2 a cup of cocoa and it was fine - tastes great actually!

Thanks for the recipe, it is quick and easy and apparently me proof ;)

Just found this and am going to try it. I want to see how it taste over dairy queen ice cream. thanks Mell

If we are using the homemade condensed milk from the recipe you posted, do we use the entire batch for this recipe?

I will NEVER buy the jarred crap again!! I just made this and I used bittersweet chips and it turned out a-freaking-mazing!!

What size can of condensed milk?

Denise Gunnels said...

I usually make a classic ganache but thought I'd try this. It is easy to throw together but wasn't as complex in flavor as I like. I added 0.5 t sea salt and 1.0 t pure vanilla. Just right. Thank you for sharing.

Delicious! I will never buy store bought chocolate sauce again. So easy to make. I just made a batch in about 5 minutes, practically licked the pan clean!!

My grandmother used to make this homemade many years ago when i was a wee one. She use to pour it over cheese cake which was also homemade. So delightful. All her ingredients came right from her own farm for all her homemade food stuff. Wow be a wee one again. :)

My husband just mentioned he wished there was a good hot fudge sauce like we had as kids (a thousand years ago)and I stumbled across this when doing a search!

My question is what size bag of chocolate chips (ounce wise) do you use?

Thank you so much, I look forward to making this!
